Dr. Betty Merveil-Ceneus, born and raised in Haiti, is the founder of The CHRISTINE MERVEIL – NEVER BACK DOWN FOUNDATION. To continue her mother’s legacy, she decided to establish this Foundation in collaboration with her brother, great colleagues and friends. The main objective is to inspire young adults in America and abroad such as in Haiti and Africa to pursue their dreams and to Never Back Down despite the life challenges.

Dr. Betty Merveil-Ceneus is a dedicated Advance Practice Nurse who strives to deliver the best quality care for her patients and a professor at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and Hudson County Community College. She began her nursing career as a nurse assistant and gracefully climbed the ladder of success with self-determination and motivation. She received a doctorate degree in nursing practice and a certification in legal nurse consulting. Subsequently, She founded her own consulting business which is known as Fidelity Legal Nurse Consulting and has also conducted multiple business endeavors.

Being raised in Haiti, she knows first hand how difficult it is for young individuals to complete their secondary school education and it is even more challenging to even acquire a college degree. It is her hope that this Foundation will help young individuals understand the importance of financial literacy and entrepreneurship. The realization of their innovative ideas can become a source of income to pay their education tuition. As a former secretary and VP of a non-profit organization, Women Leaders in Action of NJ, Dr. Merveil-Ceneus is fully committed to work in collaboration with the Board of Directors to achieve the vision of The Christine Merveil – Never Back Down Foundation.

Nelson Aluya, MBBS, MD

Public Relations Officer, Co-Founder

Dr Aluya is a medical doctor with extensive broad base training, clinical expertise in over three continents. He is involved in the medical management of people of diverse racial and ethnic background in Nigeria, United States of America and Jamaica especially of the indigent population. Trained in both Pediatrics and Internal medicine, Dr Aluya is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the New Jersey Medical School, Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey USA, an Attending Physician at the University Hospital, Newark New Jersey training. He is also the Medical Director of Sinai Sub-acute Rehabilitation Center which is considered as the largest sub-acute rehabilitation center in Essex county New Jersey. He served as a Medical Officer under Caduceus with the Center for Disease (CDC).Newark. NJ. Quarantine Center March 2015-may 2016 where he Carried out Tertiary screening, contact risk stratification and disposition of the highly contagious Ebola virus of individuals who had traveled to designated Ebola risk zones.

He has led multiple local and international medical missions providing his expertise and selfless service to low socioeconomic groups as well as economically and socially displaced and migrant families.He is a member of several professional Associations including the American Medical Association (AMA), Association of Nigeria Physicians in America (ANPA). Dr Aluya currently serves on the boards of several Non Profit organizations including as Vice President of Impact Life International Florida, USA. He has been a guest speaker at numerous workshops, conferences and seminars including the Haiti-American Partnership convention. He is a recipient of numerous peer review awards, nominations and commendations both locally and internationally.

Dr Aluya continues to dedicate his utmost effort to teaching, research to improving health care delivery especially in the area of diabetes mellitus for all of humanity and especially individuals of African descent by building the framework to recognizing the barriers to care, creating social and political awareness to the debilitating emotional, economic, social burden of disease and as well as the often poorly recognized role of the migration and human trafficking to health.

Rosette Merveil

Treasurer, Co-Founder

Rosette Merveil, the daughter in law of the Matriarch, possesses a set of skills that are deemed valuable for the advancement of this non-profit organization. Born and raised in Haiti, Rosette learned how to hustle well in between projects, initiate entrepreneurship ventures to pay her high school tuition. Now, Rosette is well known in her community for her hairstyle and make up business ventures. She has been in this business for over 25 years during which she opened up her own hairstyle studio, RMK Beauty Salon. Her strong desire to help people in their time of need led her to obtain a certificate in nurse aide and licensed practical nursing.

Rosette is a devoted mother of 5 who does her best to instill confidence, discipline, hope and love for education and entrepreneurship in her kids. With this same passion, she intends to fulfill her role as a treasurer to the best of her ability and help to fulfill the mission of this Foundation.

Rosmery Montesino, CRA

Secretary, Co-Founder

Rosmery Montesino was born and raised in Honduras, Central America. At the age of 15 she migrated to the United States where she graduated from Clifton Senior High School. She started her career in healthcare as a Patient Accounts Representative at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in 1990. She currently works at Overlook Medical Center where she has been since January 2009 as a database coordinator. She also assists with daily staff activities and is the liaison for the Cardiac Research department. Due to her hard work, dedication, and flexibility, her current role has transitioned to Clinical Research Associate where she engages in the startup of new clinical trials and their respective regulatory work in compliance with the Institutional Review Board.

Rosmery and has an extensive experience in medical billing and coding and continues to pursue a degree in Health Information Technology. She hopes to obtain her RHIT and work as a Coding Specialist. Rosmery was a board member of Women Leaders in Action where she served as the Public Relations Officer as well as the Assistant Event and Project Coordinator. In this role, Rosmery used her great ability to bring awareness of WLA’s vision to the community including corporate leaders, local businesses and other non-profit Organizations. Rosmery is a proud parent to five beautiful children.
